Oman: Experience of e-Marking of 10th grade exams at the MOE
2018
The Sultanate of Oman places great importance on education and achieving the highest international standards. In line with this, they sought to transition the Grade 10 manual marking system to a digital system (On-Screen Marking). Under this system, students' answers to final test questions are scanned, and the essay questions are marked electronically by two raters. The Ministry of Education (MoE) asked the Advanced Group for Information Technology (AGI) to pilot the Assessment Gourmet OSM module to score a sample of answer sheets (714 students) from the 10th grade in the governorates of Muscat and Al-Kharijah. The results of the experiment were promising, as all tasks were completed according to the predetermined time plan, while quality control procedures ensured accuracy. The evaluation of the raters and supervisors on the system's efficiency was high, with a score of 98.25%. AGI is now collaborating with the MoE on a full-scale project.
